What You’ll Need Before You Start

To use the app, make sure you have:

• Access to Marketing > Promotions in your BigCommerce Control Panel

• Permission to create promotions

• A spreadsheet editor like Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel

How to Use the App in 4 Easy Steps

1. Create a Parent Promotion

• Go to Marketing > Promotions > Coupons

• Click “Create a Coupon Promotion”

• Set up:

  • Channels where the coupon applies

  • Start/end dates

  • Audience targeting

  • Usage limits

• Click Save

This step must be completed first before codes can be added.

Note: When creating the promotion, the system will auto-fill a default coupon code. This is only a placeholder and does not reflect the final format of your codes. You will define the actual code structure when generating or importing them via the Promotion Code Manager App.

2. Open the Promotion Code Manager App

• Go to Apps > Promotion Code Manager

• Choose a promotion you want to manage

3. Generate, Import, or Export Codes

To Generate New Codes:

• Click “Generate Codes”

• Choose:

  • Max uses per code

  • Max uses per customer

  • How many codes to generate

  • Optional prefix or post fix

• Start the import  job — you’ll be notified when your codes are ready

To Import Existing Codes:

• Click “Import Codes”

• Download the CSV template

• Add your coupon codes in the required format

• Upload the file — you’ll be notified when the job is done

To Export Codes:

• Click “Export Codes”

• Choose to export all codes or filter by prefix

• Download the CSV for external use

4**. Review and Confirm**

• Double-check that your codes appear correctly in the app

• Review any error logs to catch formatting or duplication issues

• Confirm that your promotion settings align with your campaign goals

Things to Keep in Mind

• Uploading thousands of codes? No problem — but we recommend breaking up large uploads into batches for better performance.

• Promotion rules (like expiration, usage limits, and targeting) must be set using the native BigCommerce Promotions interface before adding coupon codes in the app.
