The PlayBetter success story

In 2007, Baltimore-based PlayBetter partnered with a well-known golf professional to begin selling instructional videos, DVDs, training aids, and other media. Due to its success,  the company subsequently expanded to offering a full line of golf and fitness gear.

PlayBetter’s mission is to provide its customers with the latest training gear from the world’s top brands – backed by wonderful customer service, fast and free shipping, and a “no questions asked” 60-day return policy.


An ecommerce platform for the long haul

Our previous platform, ProStores, wasn’t able to provide us the features and functionality we needed in order to grow.

After researching alternatives, I put together a shortlist which included Shopify and Magento, in addition to BigCommerce.

Shopify seemed like it was designed for  brands with smaller product catalogs, and I found Magento to be a little intimidating and better suited for a company with a team of  developers. Ultimately, I felt BigCommerce was a perfect blend of the two, providing a lot of built-in features and the opportunity to scale with a larger catalog.

Klarna Payments offers no-liability financing options with streamlined approval for shoppers. Having Klarna available at checkout and offering our customers the ability to pay over time with little or no interest has been extremely helpful in reducing cart abandonment and increasing conversion.

Optimized checkout leads to greater conversions with Klarna

The optimized one-page checkout on BigCommerce has definitely increased our conversion rates. We utilize payment methods like Amazon Pay, PayPal powered by Braintree, and Klarna Payments. Klarna Payments offers no-liability financing options with streamlined approval for shoppers.

Our top selling product on our site is called the SkyTrak, a golf simulator unit that costs about $2,000. Combined with our other high-end GPS units, we have a very high average order value on our website. Having Klarna available at checkout and offering our customers the ability to pay over time with little or no interest has been extremely helpful in reducing cart abandonment and increasing conversion.

Since activating Klarna, we’ve experienced a 25% increase in average order value, and I expect it will continue to grow over time.
